The Importance of Breathwork
Last week we focused on self-massage which is a great way to stimulate and rejuvenate the body. This week we’re focusing on the importance of proper breathing for your overall health, also known as breathwork. Breathwork refers to breathing exercises or techniques that improve your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. With breathwork you intentionally change your breathing pattern; especially when you're annoyed. ;)
Self-Massage Tutorial
With less than 3 months away from 2023 (80 days to be exact!), are you on track for your fitness and wellness goals that you set earlier this year? When setting goals, it’s important to check in with yourself periodically to ensure you’re holding yourself accountable and can pivot, if needed.
Your Homework This Week
Do you know that feeling once you completed your massage and you’re feeling relaxed, recharged, and ready to take on whatever the day throws your way? Yeah, I know and love that feeling too! But, how do we prolong the benefits of our massage after our session has long ended?
Retraining Your Body
To recap my treatment process, the client shares their life updates while I take note of their repetitive movement, posture, and environmental stressors they’ve shared. Once they are on the massage table, I can palpate what joints have more mobility, muscles that are overused, or adhesions within the soft tissue (connective tissue sticking to each other), and can introduce my touch with gentle movements to their nervous system. This is my favorite part of a massage session which is deactivating and retraining the nervous system through movement, heat, aromatherapy, and breathwork.
My Approach To Massage
Ask and you shall receive! Over the summer, I was asked by multiple clients about my approach to massage therapy, so I thought, why not spend the month of September sharing more about my style of treatment during a client’s session.
Thank You!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our events with Friends of Waterfront Seattle this summer! Yesterday was our last class and it’s truly been an honor to help them bring fitness + wellness to Pier 62. Through their summer programming, I’ve been able to connect with other Seattleites and visitors, and I hope you continue to stay in touch!
