Pride Month began as a radical act of resistance. It commemorates the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969, when LGBTQ+ people — led by trans women of color like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera — stood up against police brutality and systemic oppression in New York City. What started as a riot sparked a global movement for visibility, dignity, and liberation.
