They say your first love is your father—and that’s partly true for me. But on May 25, 1990, I was blessed with another first love: my baby brother, Michael Duncan Jr.

At Indigo Movement, Pride isn’t just a month — it’s our foundation. As a Black, Queer, Woman-owned business owner, we hold this time with deep reverence and joy!

Pride Month began as a radical act of resistance. It commemorates the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969, when LGBTQ+ people — led by trans women of color like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera — stood up against police brutality and systemic oppression in New York City. What started as a riot sparked a global movement for visibility, dignity, and liberation.

I’m incredibly blessed to have so many men in my life who embody the fullness of what it means to be a man—a man who loves, honors, protects, provides, and plays with his family. This one goes out to my papa, Cat Daddy, KC—better known as Michael Duncan Sr.

At Indigo Movement, we believe in celebrating the women who shaped us—those still with us and those whose presence we feel beyond this realm. Before we end this month, I want to shine a special light on Lady T, lovingly known as Terry Duncan, my momma.

Mother’s Day may have come and gone, but I find myself still wrapped in the warmth of reflection—thinking deeply about the women who’ve shaped me, nurtured me, and helped me become the person and mother I am today.
