Proudly Rooted in Pride — This Month, and Always

At Indigo Movement, Pride isn’t just a month — it’s our foundation. As a Black, Queer, Woman-owned business owner, we hold this time with deep reverence and joy!

Pride Month began as a radical act of resistance. It commemorates the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969, when LGBTQ+ people — led by trans women of color like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera — stood up against police brutality and systemic oppression in New York City. What started as a riot sparked a global movement for visibility, dignity, and liberation.

Today, we honor that legacy not just with celebration, but with continued commitment to care, courage, and community.

At Indigo Movement, we believe that healing is activism. Every breath you take, every massage that brings you back into your body, every moment you choose yourself — that’s pride in practice.

Below are some local non-profit organizations providing services for the community.

Gender Justice League A civil rights nonprofit advocating for gender and sexuality rights. They operate Safehouse, a transitional housing program for individuals who have experienced gender-based violence, and organize Trans Pride Seattle each June

Mend Seattle Provides subsidized counseling services to cis and trans women and non-binary individuals, focusing on intersectional and feminist approaches to mental health.

Entre Hermanos Focuses on promoting the health and well-being of the Latinx LGBTQ community through services like HIV prevention, care, and immigrant rights advocacy.

Lavender Rights Project Provides legal and social services for Black intersex and gender-diverse individuals in Seattle and Tacoma. Services include legal consultations, name change assistance, and community organizing initiatives.

Cheers,
Tiana
