Honoring My Father, My Foundation

I’m incredibly blessed to have so many men in my life who embody the fullness of what it means to be a man—a man who loves, honors, protects, provides, and plays with his family. This one goes out to my papa, Cat Daddy, KC—better known as Michael Duncan Sr.

Being a Duncan is a badge of honor—one wrapped in pride and regal energy. My papa is the 13th of 15 children, born in the Show Me State, Kansas City, Missouri. He came to Seattle with just $50 in his pocket and built a name, a life, and a legacy rooted in love and resilience.

There are so many things I admire about him, but the value that stands out most is his unwavering commitment to family. Michael is a man who leads with love—a proud father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend—who expresses that love through service, affirmation, affection, and quality time.

One of my favorite memories? Wrestling and sparring with him and my brother in the upstairs living room—my papa crouched low on the cream carpet, singing along to Kool & The Gang booming from the stereo, while my brother and I giggle and plot our next move. My papa eggs us on, full of joy, while my mama calls from the kitchen, half-laughing, half-warning: “Alright now!”

Cheers to a man of vision, innovation, deep pride, and honor—to being a man, a Black man, and above all, a loving father!

Cheers,
Tiana
